Hi, I’m April Scott.

I’ve been a graphic designer for over ten years and now I’m “moving beyond the margins” to explore the world of surface pattern design. I first discovered this was a thing on Skillshare and I’ve since fallen in love with the process of creating patterns.

I usually take an improvisational approach to drawing, experimenting with geometry and natural forms to see what develops. I combine and arrange these hand-drawn motifs until I find a composition that feels right. There’s a blend of surprise and intentionality in the patterns that emerge.

My work is elegant with a slight edge, graceful without becoming too sweet. I love asymmetrical balance, a sense of movement, fluid lines, strong contrast, warm earth tones and deep, moody jewel tones. I would love to see my patterns land on fabric, home decor and wallpaper, creating objects and environments that fall somewhere between bohemian, glam and modern.
